Frederick Marvin Hoffman

June 21, 1933 — November 4, 2017

Frederick Marvin Hoffman Sr., 84 of Barkeyville, passed away the morning of November 4, 2017 at Butler Memorial Hospital. Fred was born on June 21, 1933 to the late Lawrence B. Hoffman and Edith Hovis Hoffman. He was a graduate of the old Jones one room school house in Barkeyville. He married the former Betty Jean Hogue on January 9, 1953; she preceded him in death on May 23, 2016.

Fred was a Barkeyville native and a descendent of Barkey Hoffman, the man Barkeyville is named after.

Fred was a hardworking man through his entire life and started young when his family owned a coal mine. He and his father then went together and invested in a contract with Peoples Gas, bringing a location to Grove City. He also would run his junk yard and loved selling cars every now and then. Fred loved cars, going to car shows, and watching TV shows about car shows. He also enjoyed meeting his friends every morning at Burger King in Barkeyville for coffee.

Fred is survived by his son, Charles L. Hoffman of Barkeyville, a brother Virgil Hoffman of Franklin, granddaughters Tammy Bodenheimer and her husband Buzz of Greensburg and Jodi Vernom and her husband Justin of Jackson Center, a grandson Jeff Sweetapple and his wife Miranda of Grove City, as well as several other grandchildren and great grandchildren. Fred is also survived by his two caretakers and dear friends, Denise Ranay Hiles and Kim Brandt.

In addition to his parents and wife, Fred was preceded in death by his sons Frederick Hoffman Jr. and Dennis Hoffman.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Jamison Funeral Home, Inc. 117 N. Main St., Harrisville, where family and friends are welcome Tuesday, November 7, 2017 from 1 pm until 3:30 pm. A funeral service will follow at 3:30 pm at the funeral home with the Reverend Kenton Shaw, retired pastor, officiating. The family would like to invite those who knew Fred to a time of fellowship following the service at the Mountaintop Cowboy Church in Nectarine, 2178 Clintonville Rd, Harrisville, PA 16038.

Interment will be in Old Log Cemetery.
