Steven M. Daugherty

May 25, 1959 — December 8, 2017

Steven Mark Daugherty, 58, a resident of The Caring Place in Franklin, PA, is dancing with a new body in Heaven following his death on Friday, December 8, 2017.

Steve has left his family heartbroken, but knowing that he is whole and at peace.

He was born on May 25, 1959 in Oil City to Robert W. and Phyllis Books Daugherty. He was blessed with a wonderful life because of their devotion and loving care.

Steve's life was an inspiration to many people. Although faced with tough physical challenges he was always ready with a smile and a witty comment. He enjoyed life and a good bottle of "Pepsi". Gone were the days when he could shimmy to a favorite Elvis Presley tune, but he never gave up dancing in his spirit.

Steve attended a community school for the disabled and received his diploma from Cranberry High School in 1978.

He was an active member of Easter Seals.

Steve participated in the many activities available to him at the Caring Place. Throughout the years he enjoyed trips to Maine and the beach in North Carolina. Every summer he looked forward to his week at Camp-Lend-A-Hand in Conneaut Lake, PA and shared humorous stories about his camp adventures. A trip to Graceland was the highlight of his life because he got to see where his idol, Elvis Presley, lived. He also loved being co-pilot to his brother in law, Fred, and he dreamed of being a pilot.

Steve found joy in the simple things that life had to offer and taught us to be content with the life we are given.

He will be missed by so many people. He is survived by his parents and two sisters, Lori D. Switzer and husband Fred of Rockland, and Amy D. Ginkel and husband Mike of Oil City; his sister-in-law, Cathy Daugherty of Victory Heights and his Aunt Brenda D. Seigworth of Zelienople.
He was Uncle to many nieces and nephews, Daniel Switzer, of Seattle, WA, Gavin Switzer and wife Carissa, of Lakewood, OH, Michael Daugherty, Jennifer Daugherty, and Samantha Daugherty, of Victory Heights, Jillian G Podosek and her husband Eric, of North Collins, NY, and Kyle Ginkel of Rensselaer, NY. He had two great Nephews, Evan and Bennett Podosek.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Daugherty, his grandparents, Wade and Luella Daugherty and Raymond and Irene Books.

Steve had an extended family of brothers and sisters at The Caring Place and Asceracare Hospice who provided tender loving care for the eight years that he lived there. They brought much joy to his life and he to theirs.
