Velma G. Barr

Velma G. Barr, age 92, of Newhaven Court at Butler, passed away on Friday August 5, 2016. Velma was born in Fairview, West Virginia on January 12, 1924 to the late Larney McBee and Millie Wilson McBee. Velma was a member of Harmony Presbyterian Church in Harrisville. Velma and her husband Stanley lived in Harrisville for nearly 40 years.

Velma was employed by Har-Mer Elementary School where she worked alongside her lifelong friend, Janet Barnes, as a food service employee. In their retirement, Velma and Stanley moved to Englewood, Florida where they enjoyed the warm winter sunshine and many new friends.

Velma is survived by two daughters, Barbara Rowe and her husband Richard of Chicora and Ruth Ann Semel and her husband Lawrence of Carlisle, five grandchildren, Rebecca Roskovski and her husband Shawn of Butler, Aaron Semel and his wife Tanya of Columbus, OH, Robert Rowe and his wife Megan of Chicora, Rachel Foster and her husband David of Gibsonia, and Tara Samuelsen and her husband Andrew of Carlisle, fourteen great-grandchildren, a sister Norma Jean Kendall of Boardman, OH, and many nieces and nephews.

Velma was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved being surrounded by and serving her family and friends, especially her five grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Velma was preceded in death in 2001 by her loving husband, Stanley E. Barr, who she married on October 22, 1942. She was also preceded in death by her brother Robert McBee.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Jamison Funeral Home, Inc. 117 North Main Street, Harrisville, where friends and family are welcome from 12-3 pm on Monday. A funeral service will follow at 3 pm with the Reverend Lawrence Semel and Reverend Richard Rowe, Velma's Son-in-laws, officiating.

Interment will follow at Prairie Cemetery.
