Alan Edward Zinz

January 26, 1944 — January 28, 2025

Cooperstown

Alan E. Zinz, 81, of Cooperstown left to sing with the angels on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at Quality Life Services of Grove City.

The son of George E. and Frieda L. Zinz, Alan was born on January 26, 1944 in Sewickley PA.

He was a student at Rocky Grove High School.

Alan worked at his Uncle Art's farm in his younger years and always spoke very fondly of the time he spent there.

He worked as a Steel Worker with Franklin Industries, formerly Franklin Steel, for 43 years before his retirement in 2006. As a part-time profession and hobby, Alan loved to cut trees.

Alan was a long-time member of the Church of Christ in Franklin. Alan was a song leader for years, spreading his love of God with everyone who heard his music.

He was a man who found great joy in deer hunting, mainly during archery season and by muzzleloader. He enjoyed spending time in the woods with his twin brother Alvin, his nephew AJ, and any of his children that he could convince to join the trip. His grandson, Tyler, often went hunting with Alan. Tyler had taken his grandfather on his final two hunting trips, even bringing home a buck each time.

Alan was the life of the party and loved being the center of attention. He was a friend to any stranger and would have a conversation with anyone. No matter where he was, if Alan started a conversation with someone and they were willing to listen, he would share his special talent- yodeling. He was known as "Yodeling Al", and his children fondly remember being embarrassed by his impromptu yodeling performances.

A friendship that spanned decades of Alan's life is the one he shared with Don Cauvel. Alan and Don spent many years as best friends, from working together at Franklin Steel to paying each other regular visits just to shoot the breeze.

Surviving Alan are his children Donna (Ned) Melton, Edward (Kelly) Zinz, Sonya (Paul) Zinz, William (Jennifer) Zinz, and Matthew Zinz. Additionally surviving him is a brother, Denny (Kathy) Zinz, a sister, Pam Ritts, and a sister in-law, Darlene Zinz. Thirteen grandchildren; Adrian, Greta, Philip, Aaron, Danica, Jarod, Olive, Eleanor, Kara, Tyler, Ashley, Abbey, and Annie. Eleven great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and close cousins are also left to cherish Alan's memory.

Alan was preceded in death by his parents, his twin brother Alvin Zinz, two sisters, Cynthia and Diane Zinz, and two sons, Michael and Adam Zinz. A granddaughter, Kalyn Kaster, and two great grandchildren, Blake Alan and Ella May Schmidt.
