Arlene Ruth Stephens Cook

Arlene Ruth Stephens Cook, 81, formerly of Rocky Grove passed away Tuesday at 9:50 A.M. January 7, 2014 at the Golden Living Center in Oil City. She was known to everyone as ?Cookie?

The daughter of the late Arthur Leroy and Susie Ion Rumberger Stephens she was born in Woodland Heights, Oil City on April 26, 1932. She was a graduate of Cranberry High School.

She retired in June 1994 after working in the Valley Grove School District Cafeteria for 26 years. She and her husband owned and operated Cookie?s Mini-Donuts concession stand for a number of years.

She was a member of the Fox Street Church of God. Active in the community in October 1999 she received the Citizen Volunteer Service Community Award by Governor Tom Ridge.

Cookie will be remembered for doing crafts, tending her flower gardens, sending cards, celebrating the holidays, playing Bingo, doing search-a-words and attending the activities at the nursing home. Her humor, bright smile and her retelling the stories of her life will be missed by family and friends.

On October 29, 1955 she married George Henry Cook in the Christ Lutheran Church in Oil City and he died on March 22, 1993.

Surviving are two daughters Karen Sue Mortimer and her husband Patrick J. of Oil City and Cindy Mae Wengerd of Millersburg, OH; four grandchildren Ryan Lee Wengerd and his wife Candi of Millersburg, OH, Danielle Marie Wagers and her husband Justin of Holmesville, OH, Sean Patrick Mortimer and Jolene Suzanne Mortimer both of Oil City, and three great granddaughters Breanna Mercedes Wengerd, Alexis Nichole Wagers and Bristol Leigh Wengerd all of Ohio. Also surviving are two brothers Dwane Stephens of Texas and Lloyd Stephens and his wife Janet of Cranberry, and a brother-in-law Lloyd ?Sonny? Sampsell of Dempseytown and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by three brothers Ronald in 1926, Gerald ?Judd? in 1999 and John ?Lee? Stephens in 2012, her beloved sister Mildred ?Millie? Sampsell in 2011 and her son-in-law Charles ?Chuck? Wengerd in 1991.

Friends will be received at Huff Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 312 W. Park St. Franklin on Thursday from 3:00 ? 7:00 P.M.

Funeral services will be held in the funeral home chapel at 7:00 P.M. Thursday with Rev. Mark Rusnak of Asera Care Hospice, officiating.

Interment will follow in Brandon Cemetery.
