Barton F. "Frank" Barnes Jr.

Barton F. "Frank" Barnes Jr., 49 of Grove City was welcomed into the world on January 24, 1968 and was welcomed into heaven on Sunday August 27, 2017.

Frank was a son of Barton F. Sr. and Janet L. Snyder Barnes.

He was a 1986 graduate of Franklin High School where he played baseball, basketball and football. After going blind in 2008, he continued with his college education at Slippery Rock University where he and his guide dog "Samuel" graduated with a bachelor's degree. He then graduated from Edinboro University with a master's degree in social work.

Frank was a well-loved Family and Community Supervisor with the Child Development Center in Franklin. He loved his job, the children, and those he worked with.

Frank was a member of the Franklin Elks Lodge #110 and the Knights of Columbus where he was a fourth degree knight. He enjoyed skiing with the blind at Peak n Peak and was a counselor for visually impaired children at VIP sports camps.

He was of Catholic faith and attended Church of the Beloved Disciple in Grove City.

On October 23, 2004, he married the former Shelley Rowan and she survives.

Also surviving in addition to his parents and wife is a son, Benjamin F. Barnes, a senior at Indiana University of PA; step-son, Connor Rowan a junior at Ohio Northern University; a brother, Brett M. Barnes and his wife Debbie of Wake Forest, NC; a sister, Rebecca L. Barnes of Franklin; a niece Taylor Barnes of Wake Forest, NC; five aunts, Barbara D. Smith, Judy Belter and her husband Terrell, Bonnie Jolley and her husband George all of Franklin, Cathy Gabrys of Erie, and Pat Snyder of York and numerous cousins.

In addition he is survived by his three uncles, Ken Snyder and his wife Sally of Columbus, OH, Tom Snyder and his wife Fonda of Frankfort, KY, and Bill Gabrys of Franklin; mother and father in law, James and Nora Rowan; brother-in-law, Stephen Rowan and his wife Sue and sister in law Karyn Hartwig and her fiancé Pat Cowles and their children, Austin, Brittany, Lawton, Luke, Kiaj, Rhyanne, Braedan, and Bryn.

Frank was preceded in death by his grandparents, Frank R. and Ruby P. Barnes, William Carroll and Dorothy Snyder and William C. Snyder Jr and a uncle Keith Smith.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to Huff Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 312 West Park St. Franklin where family and friends are welcome from 3:00 - 7:00 P.M. Thursday.

An Elk's Service will be held at 7:00 PM Thursday.

A blessing service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday in the funeral home chapel with Father Michael P. Allison, Pastor of Church of the Beloved Disciple, and Deacon Tom Snyder, officiating.

The family invites friends to attend a luncheon following the blessing service at the Franklin Elks Lodge where they will gather to remember and celebrate Frank's life.
