Obituary

Carol Elizabeth Fox, 78, of Dempseytown, passed away peacefully on Friday morning March 20, 2026. She was in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her loving family, following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born on June 21, 1947, Carol was the daughter of the late Curtis and Carolyn Hollabaugh. She was a 1965 graduate of Oil City High School. As a teenager, she found great joy in the outdoors, particularly in her passion for riding horses—a love that would stay with her throughout her life. She attended school in Washington D.C. training as a medical assistant before returning to Pennsylvania. On April 16, 1966, she married the love of her life, George Lewis Fox, and together they celebrated nearly 60 years of a devoted and beautiful marriage.

Carol’s life was defined by her unwavering faith and her generous spirit. After starting their family, she and George took over the family farm in Dempseytown. For years, she balanced the hard work of raising her two children along with various cows, chickens, and the occasional litter of collie puppies. After many years as a homemaker, she entered the workforce at Valley Farm & Lawn and then moved on to 5-M Feeds in Titusville. Even with a busy schedule, she always found time to return to the saddle and share her love of horseback riding with others.

A founding member of Oakland United Methodist Church in 1975, Carol’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. Over the last 50 years, she played a vital role in the church’s ministries, serving on the Administrative Council and as a leader of the hospitality team. Whether she was serving funeral dinners, creating "sunshine baskets," corresponding with college students, or gathering on Thursdays with her beloved quilting ladies, Carol lived out the call to love her neighbor. Her faith never wavered, even during her illness, and she now rests in her Heavenly Home.

Carol was a treasured wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who found joy in the simple pleasures of life: gardening, camping, crochet, embroidery, and baking for those she loved. She was famous for her banana bread, sweet rolls and even had a pie purchased at a church auction for $90. Known for her caring heart, she was renowned for her chickens and would readily share fresh eggs with everyone in the community. To know Carol was to feel like part of her family.

She is survived by her loving husband, George; her son, G.C. Fox and his wife Jenn of Dempseytown; her daughter, Carrie Sue Heber and her husband Bill of Dempseytown; and her cherished grandchildren, Brett Heber and his wife Kara of Burlington, Vermont, and Erin Heber of Erie. She was the very proud great-grandmother of Cade Heber. Also surviving are her brother, Curtis Hollabaugh of Cedartown, Georgia, cousins and numerous nieces and nephews. Her loyal dogs, Elsa and Holly, will also miss her dearly.

In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her sister, Gayle Barger.

There will be no visitation.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Huff-Guthrie Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc. 312 W Park St., Franklin.
