Dale Matthew Mahoney, 70, of Slippery Rock, passed away on Friday January 18, 2019 at UPMC Northwest after suffering a massive stroke.
He was born in Sewickley on April 29, 1948 to Lillian C. Fogo, who survives.
Dale served in the United States Navy.
He was an active member of the Slippery Rock United Methodist Church where he helped with preparing dinners for the community and also for the day care in the church.
Dale was a very helpful man who went above and beyond for the neighbors in his apartment building. He would always lend a helping hand by taking neighbors to various appointments and making sure they had their groceries.
Recently, Dale obtained his Doctorate Degree in English from Slippery Rock University. He tutored students in English and proved to be very good at it.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by two sons; Dale Matthew Shook (Katrina) of Georgia and Cory Michael Shook and his wife Tammy of Pleasantville; one daughter, Tammy Tucker of Oil City; two sisters, Faith Dechant and her husband Kevin of Franklin, Linda Midock of Tucson, AZ; a brother, James Shook and his wife Cathy of Cary, NC and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his beloved step-father, J. Robert Fogo.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to Huff-Guthrie Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 312 West Park St. Franklin where family and friends are welcome from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. Tuesday. A funeral service will be held immediately following visitation at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Keith McIlwain, Pastor of Slippery Rock United Methodist Church, officiating.
