Dorothy Lehman Sopher

Dorothy Lehman Sopher, 97, of Franklin, passed away at 1:57 P.M. Sunday, December 8, 2024 at Sugar Creek Care Center with her family by her side. 

She was born February 22, 1927 in Franklin at her family farm on Bully Hill and was a daughter of the late Ephraim and Nellie Doerr Lehman. 

Dorothy was a 1946 graduate of Franklin High School.

From 1956-1966, Dorothy was the Window Display Designer at the former Penny's store in Franklin. She was known for making her Rock Figurine's, and won the 1st prize at the Pennsylvania State Grange Fair for her Bicentennial Rock Woman holding the Nation's first flag which was later displayed the the former L&C Restaurant in Franklin. 

Dorothy was published in Penn Lines Magazine in 1979 for her poetry. She was also a bottle collector and used them for various art projects she created. Dorothy was a longtime member of the Venango County Historical Society. 

She was a lover of everything Nature. 

On April 30, 1948 she married John "Jack" Sopher and he preceded her in death in July of 2001. 

 Surviving are three sisters, Alice Neufeld of ID, Lucy Ratzlaff of CA and Mildred Cozad of Franklin; two sister-in-laws, Darlene Sopher and Maxine Lehman both of Franklin and many other family members. 

She was preceded in death by four sisters, Florence Ross, Ethel Orlando, Gladys Hites, Kathleen Harrington; four bothers, Roy Lehman, Paul Lehman, Glenn Lehman and David Lehman and her beloved poodle, Paris. 

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff the Sugar Creek Care Center and AseraCare Hospice for loving care given to Dorothy over the years. 

There will be no visitation or services. 

Funeral arrangements entrusted to Huff-Guthrie Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 312 West Park St. Franklin. 

 Memorial donations may be made to the Venango County Humane Society or AseraCare Hospice.
