Edward M. Metz

Edward “Ed” Metz, 90, of Utica, passed away January 20, 2025 at Meadville Medical Center.

Ed was born August 2, 1934, in Oil City to the late Charles and Ruth Metz. 

He was the husband of Barbara “Sue” Metz. They shared 67 years together. 

Ed was a volunteer in the 4-H community for 17 years, passing down knowledge of agriculture and livestock to not only his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, but generations of youth in the community. Every year at the Venango County Fair you could find Ed watching the livestock shows, where he would talk and crack a joke or two with everyone he knew! 

Not only was he a passionate and hard working farmer, he also worked for Canal Township for 12 years earning himself the position of Township Supervisor.

He is survived by his wife Barbara Metz, his son Vincent Metz and daughter Jody Armagost (John), grandchildren Justin Metz (Beth), Ronald Metz (Shannon), Dan Metz (Becky), Amber White (Mike), Jared Armagost (Samantha), and Jordan Armagost. Along with 9 great grandchildren. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Charles Metz, sister Jeannine Henderson, son Mark Metz, and great grandson Dylan Metz. 

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Huff-Guthrie Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc. 312 W Park Street, Franklin where a private visitation will be held for the family. 

A private funeral service will take place with Pastor John Authenreith of Cochranton Community Church, officiating. 

Ed wished to be cremated and scattered around his farm, by his family.
