Esther Lorraine Slocum

Esther Lorraine Slocum went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 1, 2025 at UPMC Northwest.

Born October 15, 1934 she was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary Patterson Sloss. She was the last surviving member of her family.

She graduated from Rocky Grove High School with the class of 1952.

On December 10, 1954 she married her childhood friend John Slocum and they enjoyed 69 years together until John's passing in August of 2024.

Following graduation she went to work at the former Franklin Hospital where she worked for several years. After taking time off to have her family, she returned there and continued her employment until 1990.

While growing up she attended Worden Chapel Church where she taught Sunday School and was youth leader. Later she attended Galloway Church for 50 plus years as a leader and teacher. She loved her church and her church family.

Lorraine loved to read, do jigsaw puzzles, go camping, traveling, Bible study, and Friday night dinner and card games with her friends.

Over the years Lorraine volunteered with The Salvation Army, The Literacy Council, Sugar Valley Lodge, and The American Cancer Society. She also worked on the local Election Board.

Above everything else she cherished her family and was so thankful for the life she shared together with her beloved husband, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great granddaughter.

Surviving Lorraine are her children, Steven (Carrie) Slocum, Debra (Jeffrey) Mihleder, and Ronald (Martha) Slocum. Also surviving are her beloved grandchildren, Christy Lambert, Jonathan Slocum, Ashleigh Phillips, Adam Armburger, Stephanie Gordon, Chad Mihleder, Chelsea Wolbert, Breanne Blakeslee, Joshua Slocum, and Lacey Lowman. Additionally left to cherish Lorraine's memory are 25 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter, many special and loved nieces and nephews, sister in-law Mary Slocum, and special friends Doris Smith, Cindy Ruditus, and Don and Pat Young.

Preceding Lorraine in death were her husband John, her parents, her stepmother Luella Bills Sloss, and four brothers, Walter, Donald, Raymond, and Clair Sloss. Two sisters, Dorothy Domres and Gladys Miller. She was also preceded in death by two grandsons, Michael Allan Slocum and Eric W. Jamison.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to Huff-Guthrie Funeral Home 312 West Park St. Franklin, where family and friends will be received from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Sunday for visitaiton.

Additional visitation will be held at Galloway Church 196 Seysler Road, Franklin from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. on Monday.

A funeral service will follow at 11:00 A.M. Monday at the church with Pastor Roy Gearhart, officiating.

Lorraine will be laid to rest beside her husband at The Franklin Cemetery following the service.
