Patricia Ann Huff, 94 of North Canton, OH, a former longtime resident of Franklin passed away peacefully on Tuesday January 29, 2019.
The Daughter of the late Merrill C. and Gertrude Sager Snook, she was born on September 15, 1924 in Lewistown, PA. She attended public school there, graduating from Lewistown High School in 1941, after which she was employed as a legal secretary for 5 years
She Married Frank S. Huff, also of Lewistown, PA on June 9, 1945. He died on December 9, 1992
Surviving are two daughters, Dr. Marsha Huff Miller of Franklin, PA and Melinda Diane Liber (William) of North Canton, Ohio; Loving grandmother to five grandchildren, Nathan R. Miller of Denver, Colorado; Dr. Benjamin G. (Julie Byrne) Miller of Pittsburgh; William R. (Stephenie) Liber, Jr of North Canton,Ohio; Rachel Elizabeth (Craig) Toussant of Akron, Ohio; and Megan Kathleen Liber, of Cleveland, Ohio; and two step-grandchildren Adam (Amy) Liber of Portland, Oregon, and Julie (Steve) McLeod, of Arundel, Maine.
She was also the proud great-grandmother of 9 great-grandchildren, including Brady and Ava Miller; Katie, Lexie, and Maggie Miller; Maryn and Harper Liber; and Luke and Eleanor Toussant; and four step-great-grandchildren, Calvin and Sadie Liber, and Kenna and Norah McLeod and also numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was pre-deceased by a son, Donald R. Huff, two older sisters, Janet Kelso and Jean Thomas, and her younger brother Merrill C. Snook, Jr., along with two nephews, David Kelso and Michael Thomas.
The Huff family moved to Franklin in 1948, where her husband served an apprenticeship for A. J. Barron, funeral director, which later became Huff Chapel, a family funeral business to which the couple together devoted their working careers until their retirement in 1986.
In addition to being a devoted parent, adoring grandmother, and loving great-grandmother, Mrs. Huff was an extremely devoted member of her community throughout her lifetime here. She was active in the First United Methodist Church of Franklin for more than five decades, serving as a member and past-president of the United Methodist Women, and a member of the Baradelis Sunday School class, and the Naomi Circle. She was a former member of the Board of Trustees, and the FUMC Administrative Board, which she chaired for a year. She also served as chairwoman of the former Women's Society of Christian Service of the Methodist Church.
As her daughters were growing up, Mrs. Huff was active in the P.T.A. of the former Fourteenth Street School in Franklin, serving as President of that organization, and was honored by the Pennsylvania Congress of Parent Teacher Associations with a life membership. She was an attentive parent, and continued this devoted role as a grandparent, following all of her grandchildren's academic, athletic, and performance activities from pre-school through their college years.
Mrs. Huff also belonged to Nursery Chapter #35 Order of the Eastern Star, and the Franklin Commandry Auxiliary. She was also a member and past-President of the Civic League of Franklin. In 1974, Mrs. Huff was honored as Franklin's "Woman of the Year" for her work in starting the Franklin Meals on Wheels (MOW) program. During her MOW tenure, she served on the Board of Directors in various capacities, including Chair.
Mrs. Huff also served on the Venango County Blind Association Board, and the Franklin Hospital Auxiliary Board, where she was also a volunteer. She was also a member of the American Red Cross, assisting in their Bloodmobile program, and was a dedicated volunteer for the DeBence Music Museum. She also served as a member of the Board of Elections for the 2nd Ward, 4th District, as Majority Inspector for numerous terms.
As her health began to decline somewhat, Mrs. Huff moved to North Canton, Ohio, in 2006, where she continued to pursue her love of libraries and reading, participate in church and Bible study activities, and maintain her active grand-parenting. Most recently, she was a patient at the Windsor Medical Center Skilled Nursing facility in North Canton. She was in hospice care with Crossroads since February 2018.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to Huff-Guthrie Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc. where family and friends are welcome from 2:00 to 4:00 pm on Saturday, February 2, 2019.
A Funeral services will be held at the First United Methodist Church 1102 Liberty Street at 6:30 pm Saturday evening, with Rev. Wade Berkey officiating.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the caring staff members at the Windsor Medical Center Skilled Nursing facility as well as to the compassionate care provided by her hospice team through the Crossroads Hospice and Palliative Care, Green, Ohio program.
Mrs. Huff's family has requested that any gifts in Mrs. Huff's memory may be made to the Stained Glass Window Fund of the First United Methodist Church, 1102 Liberty Street in Franklin, PA 16323.
Interment will be at Franklin Cemetery.
