Phyllis L. Books Daugherty

Phyllis L. Books Daugherty, 84, of Victory Heights, passed away at 5:20 A.M. Thursday October 17, 2019 at Sugar Creek Station.

Born at home in Kossuth on February 15, 1935 she was a daughter of the late Raymond and Irene Harriet Books.

She was a 1953 graduate of Cranberry High School.

Phyllis was a caring, loving and generous woman. She was always taking care of those around her. Phyllis was very active in Easter Seals where she previously served on the board of directors and earned a service award for her dedication to the organization.

In her early years she worked at the former Freem's Woman's store in Oil City. She moved to Tacoma, WA where she was a model for Revlon. She worked at The Bon Marche in Tacoma, WA in cosmetics. In her later years she worked at Grady's Bakery in Oil City. She dedicated her life to taking care of her family.

She enjoyed shopping, going to the beach, baking and going to garage sales with her husband. Phyllis loved Theatre and wrote poetry and plays for her church.

On August 27, 1955 she married Robert W. Daugherty and he survives. Together they had a very loving and devoted marriage that lasted 64 years and was an inspiration to those around them.

Surviving are two daughters; Lori D. Switzer and her husband Fred of Rockland and Amy D. Ginkel and her husband Mike of Oil City; a daughter in law, Cathy Daugherty of Victory Heights; seven grandchildren, Daniel Switzer of Boise, ID, Gavin Switzer of Lakewood, OH, Michael Daugherty of Victory Heights, Jennifer Daugherty of Victory Heights, Samantha Daugherty of Port Angeles, Washington, Jillian Podosek of North Collins, NY and Kyle Ginkel of Rensselaer, NY; two great-grandchildren, Evan Podosek and Bennett Podosek both of North Collins, NY and a special sister in law, Brenda Seigworth.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two sons, Ronald Daugherty and Steven Daugherty; a sister, Dixie Books Poirier and a brother, Robert Books.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to Huff - Guthrie Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 312 West Park St. Franklin where family and friends are welcome from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM & 2:00 - 4:00 PM Saturday.

A funeral service will be held at 4:00 P.M. Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Darrell Greenawalt, Pastor of Christ United Methodist Church, officiating.

Interment will be at Brandon Cemetery.
