Obituary

Steve "Mac" McElhaney, 74, of Franklin, passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2026 at the Collins House.

Son of the late John and Mary Hefferman McElhaney, Mac was born on February 4, 1952 in Franklin.

He was a 1970 graduate of Franklin High School.

Mac worked as a machinist for Joy Manufacturing for many years.

He was a valued member of his community and was involved with both the Rocky Grove Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as Chief, Assistant Chief, and President, and the Cooperstown Volunteer Fire Department, where he served for a time as President. He spent many years as a Fire Instructor, teaching a large number of our local firemen how to safely navigate the challenges they would face. His impact on the local fire departments is a testament to his dedication to his communities.

Mac was an active member of the Evangelistic Tabernacle in Cooperstown.

When he had time that wasn't taken up by his passion for the fire departments, Mac loved to go fishing.

He cherished the time he spent with his wife, children, and grandchildren.

On June 16, 1973, Mac married the former Deb L. Kuntz, who survives him.

Additionally surviving is his daughter, Billie (Greg) Hoover, of Seneca and his son, Titan (Allison) McElhaney of Greensburg. Grandchildren include McKenna and Stephen Hoover, and Rachel and Andrew McElhaney.

Mac was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary McElhaney.

Funeral services are privately held for the family.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted with Huff-Guthrie Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc. 312 W Park St. Franklin, PA 16323.
