William J Sanford

William J. Sanford, 78. of 7 E. Second Street, Oil City died at 6:30 p.m. Sunday March 4, 2012 at his residence.

A son of George Wilson and Sarah Ann Patterson Sanford he was born in Franklin on August 12, 1933. He attended Rocky Grove High School.

Bill was a mail truck driver for 31 years retiring in 1995. He also had been a over-the-road driver. He was known by the CB handle of Streaker.
Bill enjoyed spending time with his family, walking the bike trail and crossing the three bridges of Oil City. He will be remembered for his greetings of ?Ho? and ?Hoy?. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler fan and enjoyed throwing horseshoes and playing corn hole. Bill never missed a fireworks display if at all possible.

He was a devout member of the Mormon faith.

On December 25, 1954 he married the former Maxine L. Sharrer who died October 14, 2000. On August 17, 2002 he married Susan Elaine Godinich Bickel who survives along with 7 children: Darlene Sue Hendrix and her husband Scott of Carthage, MO, William Jay Sanford and his wife Marge and Caroline Joan Bemis and her husband James all of Oil City; Martha Jean Stearns Stansbury and her husband Jerry of Huntersville, NC and Wesley James Sanford and his significant other Ginger Pyle of Kennerdell; Cathy Kohoutek and her husband Joseph of Loganville, GA and Jay Bickel and his significant other Danielle Fento of Oil City; 20 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister Alice Sanford of Oil City and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Maxine, a son-in-law Joseph Stearns, two sisters Jean Hood and Margaret Masters, three brothers George, Charles and Lee Sanford.

Friends will be received in the Huff Chapel, 312 W. Park St. From1-4 and 7-9 Wednesday. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Thursday with Bishop Robert Martin, officiating.

Interment will follow in the Franklin Cemetery.
