William E. "Bill" Ray

 William E. "Bill" Ray Jr., age 84, died peacefully the morning of November 13, 2024 at Villasprings Skilled Nursing Facility in Florence, Kentucky.

Born September 16, 1940 to William and Clarissa Ray, he lived in Franklin and then Cranberry, PA with his parents and siblings. He graduated from Cranberry High School and Clarion University before beginning a teaching career at Pinoak Elementary School in Cranberry, where he taught 5th grade with a focus on the sciences. His long career there saw many accolades and awards- he was an amazing teacher to many young students.

Bill married Corinne Kress in 1962. They shared fifty wonderful years and four children together. Bill and Corinne enjoyed farming, camping, canoeing, playing cards, and traveling to Myrtle Beach, SC for vacations. Bill lived most of his life in Venango County, PA. In 2022, at the age of 82, he moved to Atlanta to live with his youngest son, Walt and his husband, Scott for two years. Earlier this year, Bill moved to Florence, KY to be closer to eldest son, Tim and his wife, Linda, and son Paul and his wife, Kathi, and their collective children.

Bill was a born teacher and educator. He was well known for narrating the story of how it became that the land looked how it does- or what types of trees and wildflowers were growing here- and why. His natural curiosity led him down many adventurous trails. He enjoyed spotting birds and other wildlife and was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He instilled these qualities into his children and anyone who would listen. Many in the community can share hilarious stories of Bill's unorthodox teaching style and antics – both in and out of the classroom. He will be deeply missed.

Bill is survived by his children: Timothy S. Ray and wife Linda R., Paul D. Ray and wife Kathi L., and Walter W. Ray and husband Scott M. Kaye. Also remembering him are his grandchildren: Jamie L. Perrucci, David W. Reed, Kenneth E. Ray, and Anna G. Ray and a great grandchild, Gavin T. Perrucci. Bill's memory is also cherished by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and others.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and a son, Steven B. Ray.

Bill was lovingly laid to rest at a small graveside gathering on Monday, November 18, 2024 at the family cemetery behind Congress Hill Church of God.
